HOW TO MAKE ORANGE LIPSTICK WORK FOR PALE BLONDES / IGGY AZALEA INSPIRED MAKE UP

Orange lipstick - Kiko Rock Idol lipstick 03 + Mac Cherry lip pencil - Iggy Azalea inspired make up
Ladies let's face it, for those of you who are naturally blonde, fair skinned AND pink toned like me, orange is not the most flattering shade of lipstick.
Orange is a red with a lot of yellow in it, and this yellow is what will clash with the pink in our skin.

My first attempt at wearing an orange lipstick was a couple of years ago, after seeing a picture of Kourtney Kardashian rocking a bold orange lip.
At the time I somehow failed to find relevant the fact that Kourtney Kardashian has dark brown hair and a dark olive skin, basically the opposite of me.

So when I went to a make up store, and super-excited grabbed their strongest orange lipstick and tried it on, what I then saw in the mirror was something that haunted me for months.
No. I mean, seriously, NO. All kinds of wrong. Like a clown from a horror movie gone wrong.

That put me off trying ever again.

But I have recently come across some pictures of stunning Iggy Azalea, and in most of them she was wearing a beautiful orange lipstick.
Her make up artist is celebrity make up artist Priscilla Ono.
And with the most angelic fair complexion and her platinum blonde hair, Iggy was looking just perfection with that orange!
That's when I thought - Ok, then there has to be a way for us poorly melanin-ed to wear orange too!! :-D

Also, celebrity make up artist and make up divinity Lisa Eldridge recently posted on her YouTube channel a very interesting - as always - video about orange lipsticks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg6GZisIOYs), so I felt finally ready to leave behind the clown in the mirror, and try orange lips again ^_^

I hadn't self-tanned in a week, so I was starting off with my natural skintone.
The first step for us cool-toned/pink-toned is to try and counteract, or at least neutralize, the pink, so that the yellow-rich orange won't clash too badly with it.
A neutral or yellow(warm)/toned foundation can do that.

My everyday foundation and all-time favourite L'Oreal Lumi Magique (True Match Lumi) in DW3 Gold Linen is yellow-toned AND slightly darker that my natural complexion, so it did the job perfectly.
My all-time favourite foundation brush, the Real Techniques stippling brush, was key for a flawless and seamless application, especially in this case where the foundation shade did NOT match exactly my skin colour.

Then we need to make sure we conceal to perfection any other undesired colour on our face, like blue in the undereye area, or red on the cheeks or from blemishes.
For this I used Clinique All About Eyes concealer in 01 Light neutral, both under the eyes and on the rest of my face where needed.

Now that we have a canvas as blank as possible, we can start putting colours back into it :-)

Iggy Azalea has beautifully sculpted cheeks, so I first contoured my cheeks and temples with Mac Harmony blush, a matte taupy colour, and then warmed them up with Nars Laguna bronzer.
I also used Harmony to define the crease of my eyes and my lower lashline.

Then using L'Oreal HIP Cream Eyeliner I drew a thick and elongated line along my top lashes, like Iggy Azalea does.
I put my Dior Diorshow Black Out mascara on top and bottom lashes, and filled in my brows with Catrice Eyebrow Stylist pencil in 020 Date with Ash-ton.

I finished off my face with Nars Albatross highlighter to give the top of my cheekbones, the inner corners of my eyes and my browbones an ivory-golden sheen.

And now the lips!! :-D
I first lined them with Mac Cherry lip pencil, which is red, but I don't have an orange lip pencil ^_^
Then I filled them in with Kiko Rock Idol lipstick 03, a bright orange from their new Rock Boulevard collection, making sure I was blending Cherry into it perfectly.

And that was it! Me and my orange lip look!!!! - and 2 little moles to try and recreate Iggy Azalea's look as accurately as I can :-)

Now, what do you guys think????? :-O

LIEBSTER AWARD - EMILY'S AND RACHEL'S QUESTIONS

My girls

Emily from Emily Lovess

and

Rachel from Not 2 Normal

nominated me for the Liebster Award, which is not a real award, it's just a way to show love and support to other bloggers by "nominating" them :-)

I am very grateful and excited to answer their questions for me - only to keep the length of this post within reason, instead of answering all 11+11 questions from both of them I will pick 6+5 :-)

So here are Emily's questions:

1. What is your favourite makeup brand?
I have to say Mac. They have pretty much every possible make up product in every possible shade, and their make up artists are truly the top of the top.

2. Heels or flats?
Heels baby!! Flat shoes - except for flip-flops during spring/summer and Ugg boots for fall/winter - should be banned by law, seriously hahaha!! ^_^

3. Statement eyes or statement lips?
Statement eyes. I love a statement lip from time to time, but statement eyes are more of my signature look.

4. Who is your makeup inspiration?
Samantha and Nicola Chapman - the amazingly nice and talented Pixiwoo sisters -, the supermodels of the 90s, and goddess Brigitte Bardot.

5. Favourite current trend?
Purple lips! I've been giving my contribution to the trend by often wearing Flat Out Fabulous lipstick by Mac :-) (see me wear it in Mac Flat Out Fabulous lipstick)

6. Why did you create a blog?
I decided to start a makeup blog because I was always writing my best friends these long-a** messages about make up looks and products, so at some point I just thought "Why not PUBLISH them????" hahaha :-D
And I love seeing other girls' looks and reading about their favourite products, so I thought that if I could inspire, or be helpful to, or simply entertain at least one unknown girl somewhere in the world, then my blog would make sense. And luckily it did, so let me take this chance to thank whoever is reading this now :-)))

And here are Rachel's questions:

7. How did you come up with your blog name?
I travel often, which is the thing I love the most together with music and make up.
When I started my blog I was really into glitter eyeliners - Its Turquoiseness Drunk Dial from Too Faced from their Starry Eyed line, now discontinued :'-(, is still one of my biggest loves.
So I put my greatest passions together: [Music] I took the title of the legendary song by The Beatles "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and adjusted it to myself as "MJ in the Sky [Travelling] with Glitter [Make up]" :-)

8. What is your favourite part about blogging?
Interacting with other girls who share the same love for make up <3

9. What's the last make up product you bought?
Nars Multiple in Orgasm, and I am wearing it in this look Mac All Fired Up lipstick

10. What's your all-time favourite movie?
I'm not the biggest fan of movies or cinema to begin with, but if you let me substitute movie with book I can tell you Alice in Wonderland :-)))

11. What's your all-time favourite song?
My favourite singer and icon is Madonna, but my all time favourite song is Promiscuous by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland "Promiscuous girl / wherever you are / I'm all alone and it's you that I want...", which is also my phone's ringtone <3

And now my nomination for the Liebster Award goes to my sweet friend

BeautyAddict29 from Beauty Addict 29 <3

Thank you once more Emily and Rachel, and thank you everybody for stopping by and taking the time to read :-)

Love
MJ

MY BLOODY VALENTINE

Valentine's - Illamasqua Maneater
Hey girls, this is my take on Valentine's Day make up, like Valentine with a twist ;)

For my base I used L'Oreal Lumi Magique (True Match Lumi) foundation in DW3 Gold Linen, applied with my Real Techniques stippling brush, and Mac Pro Longwear concealer in NC30.
I concealed my undereye area and highlighted the centre of my face with Clinique All About Eyes concealer in 01 Light neutral.

I lined my eyes with a black liquid eyeliner, defined my crease and lower lashline with a matte cold brown eyeshadow, and applied 3 coats of Dior Diorshow Black Out mascara both on my upper and lower lashes.

I defined my brows with powder, and sharpened them with the Clinique concealer on my browbone.

I bronzed and contoured my face with Nars Laguna bronzer, and went particularly sharp under my cheekbones.

I contoured my lips with Mac Cherry lipliner, filled them in with Maneater lipstick by Illamasqua, from their I'm The One collection, and added some clear gloss on top.

I hope you enjoyed my edgier Valentine's look :)

If you want to see what make up I was wearing on New Year's Eve, with softer lips and more dramatic eyes, go to My New Year's Eve make up <3

Lots of love to you <3
